Wearing vs. Styling
I’ve been a lazy dresser for years. I’ve prioritized ease and comfort over style. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t believe I looked bad, I just didn’t prioritize my physical appearance (rooted in childhood issues which I’ll explore later) and style. Also, I got to a point at the early stages of my career where my style choices didn’t match my budget. So I either didn’t shop, or I bought things that I didn’t love but I could afford. After years of living in jeans and easy tops, I’m now in the process of finding and elevating my style. Now when I shop, I think about “Best Self LaToya” and what she would wear. I buy quality over quantity, and I only buy things that I absolutely love. One of the main things that I’m learning now is how to style a piece/outfit instead of just wearing it, which I’m learning means having accessories to choose from and oftentimes adding an extra piece or layer. (The khaki jacket on the bed was my extra layer, and I carried a small black leather crossbody book bag. )
